It is opened by Honorable present Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina with the campus of former Patuakhali Agricultural College as its center.
Patuakhali Science and Technology University is the largest University of southern area. PSTU achieved its journey with the continuing Faculty of Agriculture offering 4-years B.Sc. Ag. Degree as its primary focus of academic program.

Around 15 students to compete for each seat of the admission test. Admission test committee sources said that the admission test held on December 13, (Sunday).
According to the sources, 9 thousand 807 students have applied for a total of 647 seats in PSTU. The candidates applied online for admission.
4 thousand 287 students applied for 498 seats of ‘A’ unit; 2 thousand 117 students applied for 83 seats of ‘B’ unit; and 3 thousand 403 students have applied for 66 seats of ‘C’ unit.

The University has a permission of widening its scope of educational expansion in conformity to the present education policy of the national government particularity in the information communication technology (ICT) and other demand driven disciplines in order to meet the challenges of the 21st century. Against this background the PSTU has planned to start two more new faculties. Those are- Computer Science & Engineering and Business Administration & Management. At that time, it has already given association to the Barisal Government Veterinary College as its constituent faculty (Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine). It has also offer degree programs in the field of Fisheries, Food Science, Nutrition and Faculty of Disaster Management that is the firstly B.Sc degree granted in Bangladesh.
