Bangladesh Awami League Nomination List 2024 PDF
The Bangladesh Awami League (BAL) is one of the major political parties in Bangladesh. It was founded in 1949 during the British colonial period and played a significant role in the country’s struggle for independence from Pakistan in 1971. The party has been a dominant political force in Bangladesh since its inception.
Here are some key points about the Bangladesh Awami League:
Founding and Independence: The party was founded by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a prominent political leader who later became the founding father of Bangladesh. The Awami League played a crucial role in the movement for the autonomy of East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and ultimately the independence of Bangladesh in 1971.
Role in 1971 Liberation War: The Awami League’s demand for autonomy for East Pakistan led to tensions with the central government in West Pakistan. The situation escalated, leading to the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. During the war, the Awami League played a pivotal role, and Bangladesh achieved independence on December 16, 1971.
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman: Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, often referred to as the “Father of the Nation” in Bangladesh, was a key figure in the Awami League. He became the first President of Bangladesh and later its Prime Minister. Unfortunately, he was assassinated in 1975.
Post-Independence Politics: After independence, the Awami League remained a dominant political force in Bangladesh. However, the country experienced periods of political instability, military coups, and changes in government.
Return to Power: The Awami League returned to power in 1996, with Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, as its leader. She has served multiple terms as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, leading the party to victory in several elections.
Political Ideology: The Awami League identifies as a center-left political party and has traditionally advocated for secularism, democracy, and social justice. It has been involved in various social and economic reforms.
Election Victories: The Awami League has won multiple national elections and has been the ruling party for a significant part of Bangladesh’s post-independence history.
