History of National Bird Day 

In 1894, Charles Babcock, school superintendent in Oil City, Pennsylvania, announced the first holiday to celebrate the Day in the United States. Babcock raises social awareness that birds are beautiful and their lives are threatening and risky. People should avoid killing and freeing birds from captivity on this day. 

He was encouraged to save birds, and his National Bird Day eventually turned into International Migratory National Bird Day, celebrated in May.
