This year, as every year, June 7 is being observed as World Day. The World Health Organization (WHO) is organizing various programs on the occasion of the day in different countries.
World Food Safety Day History:
This day was first observed in 2018 to raise awareness of global food security issues. Since then, the day has been observed jointly by the World Health Organization and member states of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, as well as other stakeholders. About half a million people worldwide die of transfat heart disease every year. The World Health Organization sets a goal of eliminating trans fats from the world’s food supply chain by 2024.
Meanwhile, a report released by the World Health Organization on the occasion of this year’s day said that one out of every ten people worldwide is affected by foodborne illness. Although safe food is a source of good health, unsafe food is the cause of many diseases.
Celebration Of World Food Safety Day 2024:
This time World Food Safety Day is being observed around the world at a time when the whole world is at risk of food insecurity. As a result, experts believe that ensuring food for all at this time is a bigger challenge than safe food.
They say the Ukraine-Russia war has had an impact on the world situation, such as the “death knell” before the negative effects of the long-term corona have been overcome. The war has cut off exports through Ukrainian ports, leaving the world’s food supply in jeopardy. Before the conflict, huge quantities of maize, wheat, sunflower oil, and various food grains were exported through these ports. Now that this is not the case, there has been a shortage of supply of these commodities worldwide and the prices of its alternative products have also gone up. Similarly, the lack of fuel supply has also affected the prices. As a result, it is creating alarming inflation worldwide.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned that food shortages could occur worldwide in the coming months. As a result, food security in poor countries will deteriorate drastically due to high prices. The conflict could lead to food insecurity for at least 10 million people, which could lead to famine.
World Food Safety Day Quote And Theme:
This year the theme of the day is “Food standards save lives”.
Food specialists say that street food is very popular in many countries. Large cities like Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and China have separate arrangements for selling street food. It provides totally safe drinking water to keep food healthy. Quality control is regularly supervised.
