The first of September is designated as National Chicken Boy Day, which celebrates the birth of a particular monument that can be viewed along Route 66 and is situated on North Figueroa Street in the Highland Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, California.
The original purpose of this 22-foot-tall fiberglass monument was the Chicken Boy Fried Chicken Restaurant, which was built in the 1960s. The monument was presented to artist Amy Inouye in 1984 when it was removed from the Downtown Los Angeles restaurant on Broadway. She would keep it in storage until she relocated it to its present location in 2007. Now a holiday is observed in honor of it.

The statue was put in storage for around 20 years before Inouye made the decision to install Chicken Boy atop her Highland Park art studio. The restoration of Chicken Boy was aided by the neighborhood. Installing Chicken Boy in her studio was done in part to add to the collection of chicken-themed novelty objects that Inouye had amassed over the years and was selling.
