What is Canada Day?
Canada Day is a national holiday in Canada. It celebrates the enactment of the British North America Act, 1867—also called Canada’s Constitution Act—which united three separate colonies into one country, Canada.
Canada Day falls on July 1 every year and is celebrated by Canadians with parties and family gatherings across the country. In Ottawa, hundreds of thousands gather on Parliament Hill for a free concert featuring Canadian musicians (this year, it’s Bryan Adams). There are also fireworks displays in many cities across Canada at nightfall.

Why do we celebrate Canada Day on July 1?
Canada Day is a time to celebrate the people, places, and things that make Canada great. But why do we celebrate it on July 1?
The answer is simple: because this is the day that Canada became a country.
It all started in 1867 when British North America united and formed the Dominion of Canada. This new nation was created by combining Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, and Ontario into one country – even though those provinces were still colonies of Great Britain at this time. The new dominion also consisted of Manitoba (1870), British Columbia (1871), Prince Edward Island (1873), and Alberta (1905).

Happy Canada Day: The Significance
Canada Day is a public holiday celebrated on July 1 in Canada. It marks the anniversary of the enactment of the Constitution Act of 1867, which united three of the separate British colonies in North America into one single dominion: The Dominion of Canada.
The day also marks the beginning of summer and winter sports seasons, such as baseball and ice hockey, respectively. If you’re planning on celebrating Canada Day with friends or family this year, here are some fun facts about this special day that will help you prepare for all it has to offer!
Canadian Culture: A rich history
Canada has been a multicultural nation since before it was even established as an independent country. Since its humble beginnings as a small territory within New France (French territories in North America), French settlers established trade routes between Quebec City and Montreal with Native American communities throughout what would later become Ontario province; these relationships helped create one of our most iconic national symbols: maple syrup! Later, British immigrants traveled from England via Newfoundland to settle throughout Nova Scotia – eventually creating another Canadian icon: Lumberjack chic!
