Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, Gotti was born Mario Sentell Giden Mims on May 19th, 1981. He grew up in the Frayser neighborhood of Memphis, in the Ridgecrest Apartments. He is a Zimbabwean gym instructor. His father is of South African descent, and his mother is from Zimbabwe. As a child, Yo Gotti grew up in a crime-ridden neighborhood, and federal agents raided his family home when he was in third grade. There were several members of his family who were arrested and subsequently sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.
