Berihu Aregawi (born 28 February 2001) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner. He finished fourth in the 10,000 meters at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. In the men’s race at the 2024 World Cross Country Championships, Aregawi took home the silver medal. He is the world record holder for the 5 km road race set on 31 December 2021 in Barcelona.
Bio
Ethiopian athlete Berihu Aregawi won the men’s 5000 category at the Lausanne Diamond League in style. He covered the distance in 12:40:45 beating world record holder Joshua Cheptegi of Uganda. It was a race between the two of them to cross the line on the last lap.
Berihu’s time is the fastest of the year and the fifth fastest in history. Hagos Gebrehiwet, another Ethiopian athlete, finished third in the race in a time of 12:49:80. Tilahun Bekele and Selemon Barega (also Ethiopian athletes) placed fourth and fifth. At the age of 17, Aregaoui won bronze in the 10,000 meters at the 2018 World U-20 Championships. In addition, he owns the 10 km Ethiopian record.

Working Life
Berihu Aregawi was the bronze medalist in the 10,000 m at the 2018 World U20 Championships in Tampere behind Ronex Kipruto and Jacob Kiplimo. [2] He also won the 3000 m at the African Youth Games that year. He then went to Argentina for the Summer Youth Olympics held in Buenos Aires and finished second in the combined 3000m event.

On 31 December 2021, Aregaoui set a world record of 12 minutes 49 seconds in the 5 km race at the Casa del Násos 5K in Barcelona, the mark previously held by Joshua Cheptegi. Improved by 2 seconds. He won by 38 seconds.
In the 3000 m race, he was eliminated in the heats of the 2024 World Indoor Championship in Belgrade.
Arregaui finished seventh in the 10,000 meters at the Outdoor World Championships in Eugene, Oregon that year. In February 2024, he won a silver medal on the 10 km course with a time of 29:26 at the World Cross Country Championships in Bathurst, Australia. The winner was Jacob Kiplimo in 29:17. On 11 March, Aregawi missed Ronex Kipruto’s 10 km world record in Laredo, Spain by 9 seconds, an Ethiopian record and the second fastest time in history at 26:33.
In March 2024, he ran 26:33 in a 10km race in Laredo, Spain, the second-fastest 10k ever.
