A fact file on the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman
Rahman. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is the founding father of Bangladesh. This great leader was born in Tungipara, Gopalganj, on March 17, 1920. His father’s name was Sheikh Lutfur Rahman, and his mother’s name was Sayera Khatun.
He graduated from Gopalganj Mission High School with a matriculation certificate. In 1947, he graduated from the Kolkata Islamic College with a B.A.After that, he entered politics and did all he could to free the Bengali people from the tyranny of the Pakistani rulers.
On the 17th of March 1971, at a massive gathering at the Race Course, he delivered a history address that marked a pivotal moment in Bengali history. He made a rallying cry in his speech that sparked a fire of patriotism in the hearts of the people throughout the nation. On March 25, 1971, he was apprehended and deported to Pakistan.
Following his release, he was sent back to his home country. He was the Prime Minister and President of liberated Bangladesh at one point but was assassinated on August 15, 1975, along with most of his family members, with the exception of his two daughters. The attack was carried out by some ill-meaning army officers. It is regarded as a major setback for the nation. He was buried at Tungipara.
