Private University Students Demand No VAT on Education. Private University students want VAT free tuition fee on Education. Students of medical colleges and different private universities wearing black badges staged a rally in Dhanmondi, Dhaka and demanding cancellation of the recently imposed VAT of 7.5 per cent on private education.
No VAT on Education in Bangladesh
About 200 students have staged a protest rally at Dhanmondi 15 in Dhaka from several private universities for demanding withdrawal of VAT that forced on educational institutions. Students said, they will join in the protest rallies to be arranged next and would continue the protest rally until the demand is met.
Private University Students Demand No VAT on Education. On Wednesday, some universities took part in the protest rally under banner of “No VAT on education” or “Beshorkari Biswabidwalay Shikkha Odhikar Andolon – BEBISHIA”. They are- University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh, East West University, Stamford University, Daffodil International University, State University etc.
In the proposed budget of 2023-2024, government compulsorily 10% VAT on private education institute like- universities, medicals & engineering colleges. It is for the first time in the country. After this, VAT was reduced from the proposed 10% to 7.5% for following request by the Prime Minister. But students were demanding withdrawal VAT from the educational institutions.
Farhad BEBISHIA coordinator said, government’s decision to impose tax on the tuition fee of private university students will bring end to the education life of nearly four lakh students in the rally in front of National Press Club.
In the meantime, students of different private universities attended the human chain. They are- North South University, BRAC University, Bangladesh Islamic University, South East University, Northern University, Daffodil International University and others.
Without this, Students from other private universities also took part in the demonstration & rally with placards & various slogans on Saturday morning around 11:00 am at Shahjadpur in the city.
